what makes a good journal

i usually kind of don't put much effort in writing these, which got me thinking. i noticed some people put a huge amount of effort into these entries, while some (me) put not as much. so i was wonder what do people find interesting in a journal entry? do u like it in a newspaper format? a provactive question? a debate? a story? a simple desciption of a artist everyday life? and for people who put alot of effort into your journal entries, what do you find most enjoyable about writing them?
i would love love response please!!
